Cosmos - Mission Control
February 27th, 2021
Cosmonauts & friends,
Cosmos Mission Control is a curation of the top news impacting the Cosmos ecosystem.
The Cosmos Hub is a port city
Last week's Mission Control highlighted the discussion happening in the community with regards to the role of the Cosmos Hub in an Internet of Blockchains.
This week, community members, Sam Hart and Ethan Buchman, published a post explaining a vision of the Cosmos Hub as a port city, a gateway for cultural exchange and economic trade. In Interchain era, the design is to have other port cities that are connected.
Currently, a Github project board is tracking the upcoming Cosmos Hub development (Gaia Network) that will make the Cosmos Hub a port city that is a 'great place to live.'
New cross-chain crew - join the IBC gang!
Blockchain interoperability is a prerequisite for decentralized networks to compete with the status quo. Inter-Blockchain Communication (IBC) launches a new crypto-economic system, Interchain era, where all blockchains are able to ‘communicate’ between one another in a true open-market.
Today, many Cosmos SDK-based projects are implementing IBC. The new community-run site tracks the ‘go-live’ dates for chains launching IBC. Right now, 14 chains are set to upgrade to IBC by the end of July with many more coming down the pike.
IBC isn’t limited to the Cosmos ecosystem. The interoperability specification can be implemented by any blockchain for a true Internet of Blockchains. The IBC gang is open to all. Join the #IBCgang on Twitter and follow the progress.
IRISnet joins the IBC gang
Congratulations to IRISnet, the first mainnet to establish the IBC connection with Cosmos Hub. Next, the Cosmos Hub governance vote is required to make the cross-chain transfer function available.
